once in a while...

...comes a great indie/foreign film that is so heart felt that it is worthy of a blog post. this movie, once, has achieved such greatness. at least with me it has. and since it won best foreign film for the 2008 independent spirit awards®. maybe it wasn't just me. as with many other great films i've seen via netflix, it was recommended to me by my manager to put into my queue.
i decided to watch it very late after a day of packing. i missed a bit of the first part but was pulled in soon after. the music is amazing. glen hansard (from the band frames) sings with an aching passion. the movie has a documentary feel to it. it's awkward and real. songstress markéta irglová plays opposite hansard in the film as well as a music collaborator. she also sings beautifully, especially in if you want me. i was blown away by her voice. earlier, i got chills just talking about it (the music) with my coworkers.

the music was so good, i plan on purchasing the soundtrack.
