congrats to brad & marie!

yesterday, joe and i drove up to san rafael to see our old college friend, brad, marry his sweetheart marie. brad met marie in san francisco which she was here attending a program. i think that's how the story goes. when marie finished, she moved back to paris so brad followed her there. and after being together for 10 years, they came back here to get hitched. it was such a lovely and elegant summer wedding. the wedding took place at the falkirk cultural center in san rafael. it was so nice to see brad again. he looked the same!

i am planning to go to paris next summer for my 40th birthday so i asked brad if i could look him up when i am there. he said sure and hopefully i make it!

the speeches were all so tender and moving. there was a friend of theirs that translated all the speeches in french, and she did a wonderful job as it made me tear up the same (if not more) than the speeches made in english. it turns out that brad's mother is british and came here to marry his father, who is american. so when he decided to move to paris for love, they were all for it.

congrats, kim & kess!

this past weekend, we ventured through the heat to attend the wedding of our long-time friend, kim. i have known him since he and my sister were in middle school. he used to come over and study with her. he and i were also roommates with my sister when we were at college in san diego.

kim is one of the most romantic guys i know so i was super excited to hear that he was serious with his girlfriend, kess. i met her a couple of times at nordies so i knew she had good taste, especially with dating kim and all. the wedding took place at the ranch golf club, which is very close to lisa's house. the golf club is on top of a hill and has a beautiful view. the only downfall was the heat. the ceremony took place outside in the burning sun. luckily, it was a short ceremony and we only baked for about 30 minutes or so.
the reception was lovely. we took advantage of the open bar and the food was delicious. i caught up with old friends and met a couple of new ones. one of the bride's maids sang a 45-minute set with her band. she only sang covers but i was still impressed with her. i thought it was very special.

at the end of the night, we all hit the dance floor to kelly clarkson's breakaway requested by willis. we danced away the night and were the last ones to leave. the happy couple left for a european honeymoon the next morning. mazal tov!!

nestldown wedding

at the end of august, my sister-in-law's sister, jade got married at nestldown. it was gorgeous, as you can see from the images above and below. it's amazing what floral design can do. my sister-in-law's mother did all the floral arrangements. she is a genius.
after the wedding, i realize i didn't take enough pictures. the ones i did take enough of were the flowers. nestldown is a park located in the middle of nowhere along highway 17 on the way to santa cruz. it took some effort to get there, thanks to my navigation system. we were told to wear comfortable shoes as it is basically surrounded by forests and on dirt roads. i didn't really listen and decided to wear my nearly 5" heels. there were many times where i almost fell. and i wasn't the only one, quite a few of the ladies at the reception tripped and nearly ate dirt. the image at the bottom was at the reception. i took it from my seat. the best thing about this wedding was a surprise performance by my niece and nephew. she was at the mic doing the vocals and he was on the drums doing back up. this is what happens when you hire their music teacher's band to play. it was the sweetest thing.

new york... finally!

sorry for the delay... i've been quite busy.

this past summer (specifically at the end of july), i actually went on a summer vacation. it was the first real one since 2009. i went to new york for a wedding and a summer break. new york is not ideal for a summer vacation as it is excruciatingly hot. definitely not the weather for two spoiled, girly californians. i had a wedding to go to in lewiston, upstate new york. my dear dear muffin was getting hitched. and my lovely cousin came as my date.
lewiston is next to niagara falls. and we were very excited about seeing the falls. it was quite humid and cloudy at first, but the sun eventually came out and it was beautiful. we went on one of the tours and our bus broke down in the middle of the tour even though they promised we'd be through with the tour in time to get to the hotel and get ready for the rehearsal dinner. during the tour, we ran into ness and tahu who i haven't seen in ages! they too were coming for the wedding. if you look closely (or just click on the image with the terrapin point horseshoe falls sign) at the picture on the left, you'll see ness with her little ones and tahu walking along.
we eventually left the tour before it was over. at least we saw most of the sights.
the wedding was fabulous and conveniently located across the street from the hotel we were staying at. the after party was also a lot of fun. it was at a bar outside of the reception and next to the lake. the next day, debbie and i left for new york city. and the lovely bride and groom left for france very soon after.

congrats, serena & tom!!

i have known serena since ucsd (in 1998). she is one of my many good friends i know from alpha phi omega (aphio). through aphio, she was also one of about 10 house/apartmentmates during my years in san diego. and though i lived with her for a mere quarter (taking over anne's room), she is really the only former roommate i am still in contact with. but not only that, i consider her a truly great friend. despite the fact that we don't talk for weeks or months at a time, we still find the time to catch up every so often. i actually met tom back in 2003 when i went to boston to visit serena. they were friends at the time but he always seemed pretty nice.

this picture was taken from my seat at the reception. it was a fantastic view of the stage and the very cool jazz band that played all night long. it was exciting to be placed at such a fantastic table with nice people and not be all the way in the back somewhere random. thanks serena (& tom)!

finally, right before lisa and i took our leave, this is me with the beautiful couple. the food was a chinese banquet and trust me, i've had my fill of this cuisine. but i've never really had chinese banquet food served to me. and the food here was delicious. not to forget, the very cute older chinese lady serving us was genuinely sweet and so efficient.

we had a wonderful time. unfortunately, i wasn't feeling well and didn't get to bust a move on the dance floor. but coming soon... our silly photo booth picture.

san diego adventures w/ mien

when i was in chicago last month visiting my friend mien, she asked if i wanted to be her date to a wedding in san diego around mid-october. it was a great excuse for me to come down for a visit, so i said, sure! i booked my flight, reserved a car, and contacted some people to see. all this before i knew what a bad 2-3 weeks i would have after getting back from my very fun chicago vacation.

i flew into san diego last friday on the very last flight. it was scheduled to arrive at 11p but to no surprise, it would be delayed. the only problem with this is that i had to get to the car rental place off site before it closed at midnight. luckily, i made it on time.

once i got to the car rental place, there was another problem. the only car they had left in the category of my reservation was a minivan. quickly, i pictured both mien & i stepping out of a minivan in our formal dresses. that was a no. the only other car available was an suv. for $5/day extra, i think i got a good deal talking up the guy at the counter. then again, who knows.

i got lost on the way to chula vista where mien's family lives. i didn't get there until close to 1a. i felt bad for arriving so late but it turned out ok. her family is super nice.

before the ceremony, we stopped by mien's sister's house to visit with her niece and nephew. both very sweet and cute kids. we stayed about an hour and had to stop by the store to get me some make up brushes since i'd forgotten them altogether. ugh. i knew i'd forgotten something.

the ceremony started at 2p and it was at least 30 minutes from where we were. mien has been friends with the bride since high school or before. i guess i met the bride sometime during ucsd but couldn't quite remember it. the ceremony took place in scripps ranch in this very lovely church. it was dome-shaped, almost like the pantheon in rome, with the hole at the very top. it was also a very catholic ceremony. i don't remember when it was over but we left to pick up some fast food at jack & the box. after which we got ready retouching our make up and doing our hair. cocktail hour began at 5p but we didn't leave until 6. we got there in time for the salad portion of the dinner course. it was at the sheraton hotel in the bay tower at harbor island. you can see the san diego skyline past the water. it's really a lovely sight.

the wedding was kinda blah so we left a bit early. the music was so bad that even though we really wanted to dance, we didn't. so we headed downtown to the gaslamp district, which is now all the rage. back when we were in college, it was absolutely pathetic. as we drive onto broadway, we found ourselves next to a car full of cute boys. being in an suv is good for looking and flirting with boys in cars next to you. at one point, the car stopped early at a red light to be next to us. we found out they are cute foreign boys. my favorite... german boys. heehee. we lost them soon after we'd found them. oh well.

after a few times around the block, we parked in the horton plaza parking structure. don't do this if you don't plan on getting validations. it's $$$. i'd only ever parked there while shopping at horton plaza but didn't know where else to park. so we walked around. we walked and walked. finally, we came upon a nice hotel we didn't mind lounging at. it was the us grant hotel. and at the very same moment we were about to go to the bar there, there were two other gentlemen thinking the same thing. except, they beat us to the locked door first.

upon seeing us behind them, one of them mentioned that we ought to find our way in together. but before we could say yes or no, they'd already begun chatting it up with us. turns out that they were two business men from florida. at first, i was talking to ron and mien was chatting with siroos. but later, we switched. i don't remember exactly how it happened. siroos asked me what ethnicity i was. i asked him if he could guess. he answered, does it start with a p? and we ended up chatting together most of the night. they were in the ice cream business. siroos was explaining to me that their specialty was pomegranate ice cream with dark chocolate. in addition to the unique flavor, they put their ice cream in a tin can. then i said, because it stays fresher! siroos said i was right! i was in disbelief and told him i saw this on the food network. he says, we were on the food network! and i respond, well, what show was it then? he answers, unwrapped. he was right. and continues to tell me that he was on that show!

i remember watching the episode with my sister and the part specifically about the tin cans. and how we ought to put our ice cream/frozen yogurt in tin cans. now, this is just the sort of thing that happens when i am out with my dear friend mien... fun fun fun.

dc trip, part deux

let's see... tuesday was the day i ventured out on my own. i didn't really know what to do. i had dinner plans with terrence that night. i'd been to dc multiple times before. i used to date someone briefly who lived out there. so as far as being a tourist, i'd already been there and done that. it was so cold out that i didn't care to see much. but i had to do something. so i did what i do anywhere and anytime i need to kill time, i went shopping.

the problem was, i didn't know where to go. i went to the mall at pentagon city and the mall next to it. i had lunch at the nordstrom there. i don't know how i ended up at the smithsonian metro stop. i think i figured, if i can't find any shops, i'll go to the museums. i took a quick look at the national monument and took a picture identical to the one i took the last time i was there, over 3 years ago. after walking around a bit, it started to rain. it made sense to take shelter in a museum for a couple of hours but i wanted to shop. from a distance, i could see the very familiar red italicized h & m sign just a few blocks away. yay! to my surprise, zara was next door. i found a cute wool blend dress from zara on sale. i got my shopping fix and started to head back afterwards.

terrence and i went to zaytinya for dinner. apparently, they are the "mezze specialist." mezze are basically middle eastern and eastern mediterranean tapas. to top it off, restaurant week in dc was extended to this week. so there was a prix fixe menu. 4 mezze and dessert for only $30 per person. we had 8 plates between two people and two desserts. needless to say, we were happily stuffed.

wednesday, 23 january
my last full day in dc came at last and as with most vacations coming to an end, the 5 or so days i was there felt so short. the end came so suddenly. i wished i had more time there. i had to remind myself that my vacation wasn't coming to an end, i was leaving for nyc the next day. i spent most of wednesday doing laundry and packing up. and making plans with bernie. when you sleep in until noon or so and then do laundry for a few hours, 4pm comes up really quickly. i met up with yung-mei after (her) work at oya for happy hour. oya is a japanese restaurant/lounge. very cool inside. i guess it's usually packed but turns out, wednesdays are the days to go because it wasn't too bad. i was on my second drink when yung-mei showed up. i decided to have some sushi rolls to soak up the alcohol. the first drink i had was pineapple goodness. the other two where soju cocktails. the last one was this cucumber and lime soju drink, it was refreshing and quite delightful.

after we were done with our rolls and drinks, we headed over to matchbox for vintage pizza and miniburgers (aka sliders, very popular on the east coast). it's a lot of fun hanging out with yung-mei. she's so much more friendly and talkative than me. so you make lots of friends when she's around. i left to use the restroom and came back to yung-mei talking to two guys at the bar. and after we sat down, we made friends with the guy sitting next to us. poor thing, he ordered the crab cakes and failed to notice the pizza and miniburgers piled high surrounding him. i guess the waitress is to blame too. we teased her and gave her a hard time about it. and shared our miniburgers and pizza with him. he bought us drinks. what a sweetie.

that was a fantastic end to my dc trip. i was a bit sad that it was over. i'm hoping to head over to the east coast again sometime in april or may. after my last body scan, i'd go to celebrate... in addition to having a huge bash here, of course. yay!

dc wedding

initially, my east coast trip was just for dc. but then bernie came into the picture and well, how can i say no to adding a leg to new york?

friday, 18 january
i arrived at dulles on the 18th and found my way to arlington where my dear friend yung-mei lived. i was staying with her for the duration of my dc holiday. she was also my date to the wedding. i know yung-mei from work. except, i never worked with her. she was the predecessor to my former position and whenever she came to visit, i'd always go along. we got along very well. it turned out that we are both tigers and sagittarians. plus, she's half chinese. in 2003, i visited her in manhattan while she was there for grad school. i stayed with her then as well. she had this great apartment that was clearly an administrative mistake. that was my first new york trip.

by the time yung-mei and i met up, it was dinner time. she lives right by the mall at pentagon city. she suggested some places including ruby tuesdays. i'd never been there but have seen countless annoying commercials for them. so we went there for mini-burgers, chili and salad bar. it was yummy. saturday, 19 january
the big wedding day. we squeezed everything in before. like shopping. and more shopping. and getting ready. we got there just in time for the ceremony. the wedding was at the washington club on dupont circle. it was built in the early 1900's. apparently, the building was originally a residence and later housed the first women's club in dc. there is so much history there. it's really amazing. and it's been kept up beautifully.

the ceremony was lovely. from the dresses to the officiant's speech. steph, as you can see above was breathtaking. there were a couple of opera singers performing. i don't think i've been to a wedding with opera singers. fancy. the reception was right after the ceremony. after cocktail hour, that is. i was on antibiotics so couldn't partake in the alcoholic beverages. the reception was in the room next to the ceremony. i think there were about 150 people there. i'm really bad at gaging things like that and height (random). it was a good amount of people. what was interesting about this wedding was all the single women there. yung-mei tells me that there's a huge population of single women in dc and new york. i guess it's a good thing i'm in the bay area. less competition i suppose. hahah.

back to the reception... the speeches were awesome. there were 4 total and a couple of them brought tears out. her father's speech was super sweet. her best friend's speech was the big tear jerker. fantastic. the best man speech was, to say the least, entertaining but the most inappropriate. and finally her sister's speech was quite nice too. the slideshow lasted a bit longer than most but i enjoy seeing childhood pictures of my friends. the food wasn't as bad as i've had at weddings. i had a great time. i just wish i wasn't on antibiotics so we could've gone out afterwards.

sunday, 20 january
steph and erik had an open house as a post-wedding event. they have a 3-level home with this great backyard. there was still a lot of snow out that day. it was one of the coldest days, mostly because of the wind. i'd left yung-mei's with wet hair and the wind chill went right through me. i think i got wind burn on my cheeks. they were still red the next day.

i didn't get to talk to steph or erik much at the wedding so it was nice to catch up with them there. i chatted a bit with her parents, his cousin ilsa from minnesota and ate way too much. a former student and friend of my mine, terrence, was there was his lovely wife gayle. we met up at the open house and has dinner afterwards. i'd never really got to know gayle previously. they invited me to their wedding but i couldn't go. damn that ted. anyway... they are having their first baby so it's very exciting. for dinner, we went to this yummy pizza place (fomerly the thai room). at the wedding, i was seated next to them at the reception. and spent a good amount of time catching up. terrence (as he knows) was one of my favorites when he was a grad student. i'm happy that we've been able to keep in touch through the years...

monday, 21 january
i spent monday in annapolis, md, visiting an old coworker and her family. i worked with danie at scripps in san diego. i think she was there for her bf at the time (husband now), chris. my ex and i used to house sit and dog sit for them when they were away. they were part of my san diego family when i lived there. she was like my big sister.

the last time i was in dc was october 2004. danie was pregnant with her second child. before that, i hadn't seen her since i moved from san diego to the bay area. that was 2001. i decided to spend the day with her and the rest of her family. her kids are now 6 and 3 and totally adorable. at first as with most kids their age, they were shy but by the end of the day, her 3 y/o was telling me she loved me. super sweet. ugh, i wished i'd taken more pictures...

we ate at this sushi restaurant in downtown annapolis. it's right by the water so it was freezing there. i know, i'm such a wimp. the kids were running all over the place but well behaved. it's nice to see what a wonderful mother danie has turned out to be. and get this, these kids eat raw fish. they were eating the sashimi like chicken nuggets. it was amazing to see. i didn't start eating sashimi until well into my adulthood. crazy. at one point during dinner, danie says to me, wow, leaving san diego was the best thing for you! this is the absolute truth. when i think about who and how i was back then, i think, who is that girl? yuk, yuk, yuk.

when we said our goodbyes, it was a little sad. after spending the day together, it made me want to visit more often and keep in better touch with them. they are really good people.

leaving tomorrow

tomorrow is my big east coast trip! i leave for dc very early tomorrow morning from san jose. i have a wedding to go to on saturday (according to weather.com, it's supposed to snow that day. yuk.) for one of my former students from my first job at stanford. i've kept in touch with her since she graduated in 2002 (i think?). it's very exciting. i'm also planning to visit an former coworker from san diego. she lives in annapolis with her family now. i haven't seen her since 2005. it will be nice to meet her daughter and catch up. i'll be in dc through mlk jr. and i leave for new york next thursday (1/24) for a few days which is also quite thrilling because i'm finally visiting bernie in brooklyn. plus, he's got a show on his brazilian photographs. very very exciting...

my childhood dream come true...

on 07-07-07, a very lucky date for weddings and anything else, my cousin married my childhood friend. in 1984, we moved across the street to nina's family. she and her brother, morris, were the only kids our age in the neighborhood. we became inseparable. nina, my sis, me and sometimes morris. he was 7 y/o. there's only so much a 7 y/o boy can do with 3 girls older than him.

we spent countless days together playing together. then, we had this grand idea. she was the same age as our cousin. if they got married, she would be our cousin too! an upcoming birthday party was the opportune time to introduce them and in 20 years or so, they could get married and live happily ever after. we teased them, ruthlessly, as kids do. kids are cruel, right? we had no idea the effect it made. as a result, they avoided each other like the plague. until high school, somehow, they got together and started dating. it was on and off through the years and about 4-5 years ago, it was definitely on. and so, on july 7th, they married and she is now my cousin.

here is an "after & before" picture of me and lisa in our cheong- sams from our brother's wedding in 2000. the dresses are custom made to fit you perfectly. before the wedding, we had our dresses taken in 3+ inches. as you can see me in the b&w pic, i'm a total fatty. yuk. i was ~20lbs heavier. it's amazing what 7 years does to you. anyway, we wore these dresses to the morning ceremony. we were the only ones in chinese traditional dresses. everyone else wore ao dais (which are traditional vietnamese dresses). our dresses are so similar (mine is yellow-gold, hers is chartreuse with accents of each others fabrics. we were dubbed chinese twins.

the morning ceremony was a traditional vietnamese wedding with family and close friends only. there's a procession where the groom's family bears gifts to the bride's family. my dad was the groom's family representative, who is the head of the procession. i was holding the tray of liquor (to be given & drank with the bride's parents) next to him. it was wonderful to be a part of it. afterwards, we had the traditional chinese tea ceremony at the groom's parents' house. there, we caught up with nina's brother morris. we'd known him since he was 7 y/o. he's 29 now with a 5 y/o son, justin. who looks just like him. it was so nostalgic. we talked about playing house and watching cartoons. and their pet turtle who ended up in our backyard years after they moved.

about a month earlier, i found out that nina's so-called friend released herself from being the day coordinator. as i wanted to help out, i'd wholeheartedly volunteered to be their reception coordinator since they needed someone they could trust. i was the point of contact for everyone at the wedding. it was my job to make sure events were happening at the right time. it was my job to tell the dj to change the song because my cousin didn't like it. ok, i only had to do this once. haha. it was nice to have such power. and the whole event turned out awesome.

it was a lovely wedding. nina's family are good people. the food was pretty tasty despite being banquet food. they had gourmet cupcakes instead of a cake. and they were delightful.

as lisa and i were leaving, we saw nina's parents in the parking lot. her mom says to us, we're family now! it was such a sweet end to an enjoyable night.

congrats aileen & billy!

on saturday, i went to aileen & billy's wedding in redwood city. since my cousin debbie was doing aileen's make-up, i came along to get ready with the bridal party so i can get my hair & make up done too.

it was a lovely wedding. i got most of the ceremony with my canon powershot sd450. my hand was a little unsteady and tired and the video looks a little like the wedding version of the blair witch project. hopefully, people won't get nauseous when they watch it.
aileen is friends with my sister lisa. lisa was one of her bride's maids. but i also know aileen from ucsd. we all went to college together. it was like a mini-reunion. with almost the same small group of friends at hao's wedding last may.
after the ceremony, there was an open bar and appetizers. i had plenty o' bubbly. i was seated with bryan and kay as well as thao and her sister lily. much to my delight and surprise, the food was pretty good. and the dancing was highly entertaining.

i still remember clearly at lisa's birthday dinner in 2003. it was after dinner and we were at this bar/club. when aileen wasn't there, billy said to me that she was the one. and that he planned on marrying her. i love hearing that sort of thing from men. i think it's so rare that men are vocal about romance and love. and the fact that he followed through. it makes me really happy for aileen and billy. there's so much love in that relationship. as it should be. ♥

summary of events...

i've been bad with posting lately because i've been SO utterly busy!! anyway let's see what's happened in the last few weeks...

sunday, september 4
my lovely cousin debbie got married to her sweetheart of almost 10 years, roger. it was in morgan hill and despite the very hot weather, a very beautiful occasion. i saw family i hadn't seen in ages! and the nordstrom crew, as always, is a pleasure to spend time with! my sister-in-law thuy played this hilarious joke on the bride and groom. it was after we saw my other cousins (the bride's siblings) make the couple eat a spring roll from each end. it was sort of like the spaghetti scene in the lady and the tramp. anyway, thuy got a piece of cold broccoli, tied it when something she found out of the centerpiece and dipped it in hennessey! so, jacob (lisa's bf) hung it over their heads for them to bob and eat it together. they said it was the nastiest thing they'd ever eaten. but she told us she loved us anyway... :D

saturday, september 10
the big moving day. i flew down on thursday night so i can help ted move. i spent half the day on friday packing up his stuff. good thing he doesn't have much. i'm so not looking forward to packing my stuff up. i really need to learn to throw out stuff. the actual moving day was a big mess... it started at 9 in the morning to pick up the uhaul truck and the tow dolly (to tow his car). there was a problem with the two dolly and one of the lights didn't work. so they had to take it to a different location. we were starved and went to the café tropical in silver lake for a snack and coffee (really good cuban food, the coffee is SO good! and at great prices). we then decided to run to the osh hardware store to pick up some rope for his piano. and on the way back to the uhaul, we saw an american apparel store and ted stopped to get a shirt for work. by the time we got back, it was 11am. we still had a lot of packing to do!

sometime after 2pm, ted's friend mal showed up to help with the piano. it was a tough job despite the ramp. there were two other guys that came and helped them lift the piano up a little step to the back of the truck. i spent most of the time finishing up all the packing and doing some cleaning. then my friend (and ted's) joe showed up after mal left and help tremendously with the move. we still need to take joe out for helping us.

after all the packing and cleaning, we were finally done! so we took the truck out for some gas and some dinner. then we got back to put the car on the tow and had no clue how to do it. so ted called uhaul and they told him to stop in and they would do it for him. it was 20 minutes to 7 and they closed at 7. by this time, the other light of the tow dolly had gone out! it was so frustrating!! when we got to uhaul, the guy that was helping us didn't speak an ounce of english and had no idea what ted was asking him. finally, some other guy came along. but he wouldn't help us because they didn't want to be liable so he just showed us what to do. finally, we got on the road at 7:20p. and while merging onto the freeway, some stupid jerk tried to cut us off. he sped up while we were getting into the right lane and almost hit us but went onto the pavement to avoid it. what an asshole.

we stopped once to get gas 3/4 down to empty. it costs us $75. the whole way, ted went 65 mph or slower. the speed limit for the tow dolly is actually 45 mph. it was going fine until we saw some flashing lights. it was a copper. he said one of the chains from the tow had fallen out and that we might want to secure it. apparently, it had been dragging on the road that part of the hook had disintegrated! the cop probably noticed the sparks from it dragging. it was close to 3am when we finally got back to my apartment. we just brought in the necessities.

the next day we unloaded in an hour! and it took a while to get someone to help with the piano but we finally dropped it off at my parents' house and dropped off the truck. good riddens. i don't know if we'll tow a car again...

i had my follow up with my ophthalmologist. and the intubation didn't work. my tear ducts are still completely obstructed and now, it means i will need surgery. the surgery entails opening up the side of my nose to stretch out the tear duct sac. he says it would happen on a friday and i would be able to go back to work on monday. eek. good to know it's a fast recovery time. he wrote me a prescription for eye drops and wants to see me in 6 months. what a pain...

caroline & fred pinchon - wedding #3 or was it #4?

yesterday, ted and i ventured down to westminster to attend my friend caroline's last wedding of the year. they were officially married at the chicago city hall last year. that was wedding number one. since then, they've had two more weddings in france. fred is french, hence the weddings in france. and this one was a chinese banquet and their last wedding celebration.

it was a nice small event. ted and i sat with the couple. the last time we saw them was right before they got engaged. they stayed with me for a night and then headed down to carmel for a couple of days. carmel was where fred proposed to caroline. it was all very exciting and sweet.

it was nice to see them and catch up for a bit. we're hoping we can finally make it out to chicago next year. so, that was my 4th wedding of 2005. i have one last wedding to go...

my best friend kelly got married yesterday at the ralston hall in belmont. i had the honor of being her maid of honor. and despite starting the day at 6am and ending it at around 11pm, it was worth every minute to share this lovely day with her and her new husband chris.

we got ready at the san jose marriott where there was an anime convention. needless to say, we did not blend well with the anime fans consisting of geeks and gals in costume and regular attire. my cousin debbie did hair & make-up for me, kelly, and kelly's mother. i didn't recognize myself after she was through with me! she's been known to work miracles... and of course kelly looked very beautiful.

the church ceremony was at 1pm and i was very nervous! it went off very well despite the missing presentation of flowers to the virgin mary. it was so exciting for me to be there next to kelly at the church. it was one of the shortest catholic church ceremonies i've been to yet.

despite the 3 cocktails on a very empty stomach, i was able to give my speech without a hitch. it was not only slur-free with minimal word stumbling but also tear-free which was my main concern. and, i made the guests laugh, twice. yeah, i know, i'm awesome.

this was after the bouquet toss that actually initially landed at my feet. it was between me and joanne and we both jumped away from it! afterwards, kelly told me i was supposed to catch it and that she aimed for me. i knew she was!

today, kelly's parents had a luncheon at their home for the opening of the gifts and a nice spread of food. ted and i stuffed ourselves. and then they are off to australia tonight for a 16-day honeymoon. i'm so jealous.

my best friend kelly is getting hitched at the end of may. today, the other bride's maids & i threw her bay area bridal shower. it was hosted at my apartment. thanks to the help of all the bride's maids, including the matron of honor (kelly's sister joy), it was a huge success!! the party started at 1p. the last party goers left at 5p. it was 4 hours of non-stop fun. i'm so glad that i was able to contribute and participate in such a happy ocassion for kelly...

the theme was hawaiian (hence the lei around my neck). if you look closely, the cake also has a hawaiian theme to it. the food was delicious and plenty. the games were in groups of laughter and creativity. all in all, we had a lovely crowd...

i can't wait for the wedding...
